Visit to the West Midlands

The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Social Integration visited two intergenerational projects in the West Midlands as part of its inquiry into intergenerational connection.

The first visit took place at the Birmingham LGBT Centre, where the APPG’s Chair, Chuka Umunna MP, met with staff and participants of the Rainbow Bridge project, which forges social connections between people of different age and sexuality. In addition, the APPG learnt about the range of different intergenerational projects being run across the city by the Ageing Better in Birmingham initiative to which Rainbow Bridge belongs. Following this, Chuka travelled to Meriden to the east of Birmingham, to meet with APPG member Dame Caroline Spelman MP in her constituency, and visit the Three Trees Community Centre. The Centre is a faith-based hub which provides a wide range of clubs and activities for people of all ages in the local area.
